Colour - White diamonds come in different shades

The colour of a natural white diamond ranges between pure ice-white and light yellow. Natural diamonds can also occur in shades of pink, blue, green and red, but these are extremely rare. Darker yellow or champagne-coloured diamonds are more commonly found in Australia.

A diamond's colour directly affects its value, because diamonds with the less colour are much rarer. Although many diamonds may appear colourless to the untrained eye, most will contain traces of yellow, brown or grey.

The chart below shows the colour grades for diamonds.

Only an expert would be able to tell the difference between the colour of diamonds in the same category, and most people would find it hard to see any colour in the 'near colourless' range.

The diamonds we keep in stock are usually in the colour range of G-K as we belive these provide the best value for money, while still appearing white to the eye. For diamonds set in platinum or white gold, we would recommend colour now lower than H or I.

Modern technology allows low-grade diamonds to be enhanced by artificial processes, to add, change or remove colour. We only sell diamonds with natural colour, that have not been enhanced in any way.
